Neskantaga and other nations have been suffering from the lack of clean water for 28 years. This problem has been brought up to the Canadian Govournment but little action has been taken to solve the problem.
1995The reserve was placed under the water boil advisory after their water treatment plan failed. A year later, the advisory became long-term and has been in effect for 28 years.

2010The government renewed the First Nations Water and Wastewater Action plan by giving another $330 Million Commitment Plan to support the gouverment's long-term water strategy.

Canada commits to achieving the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This agenda includes the availablity of water and sanitation for all. During federal-elections, Justin Trudeau pledged that he would end boil-water advisories if he was elected. The gouverment promises to eliminate all long-term drinking-water advisories.

Prime Minister Trudeau misses the deadline and did not provide the help said he would give in his last election. Canada reaches an agreement to give $1.5 billion in compensation for individuals deprived of clean drinking water.
